Migrants: Europe Needs to Go Back to History

Many desperate people from Africa, Asia and Middle East are now making perilous journeys in thousands in their attempts to reach Europe seeking green pastures. They are risking everything to cross the Mediterranean.  Italy’s ports have become modern-time Kilwa, Mafia, Dakar or Lamu for Africans to enter Europe as it was for Europeans to enter Africa landing in the above mentioned city states. Europe is grappling with the heavy load of invaders just as Africa did when Europeans invaded and colonized her in the seventeenth century. Those poor but energetic and ambitious Africans, Arabs and Indians are called a calamity there due to the danger they pose to the economies and cultures of European countries.
Nevertheless, it is sad that Indians and Arabs are not seen with the same lenses as Africans are. Is it because of racism or ignorance? Why don’t they feel pity for them after considering how dangerous and adventurous their voyages are?  Is the history repeating itself or is the law of reciprocity based on times displaying its nature? It is time to tell Europe to stop worrying for no reasons. These folks are heroes who want to help poor relatives made poor by black colonialists that are always in bed with Western ones. Africa’s economies can’t support their population thanks to playing a service role to Western economies. If the situation remains the same, Europe must brace itself for even more. Maybe, this is the new way of deconstructing the archaic system of exploitation enacted by the same European countries under colonialism, slavery and imperialism. This is why I fully endorse it. For I know. It will help all of us to see the problem as ours not Africa's or/and third world's as those who created such a dichotomous schema have always wrongly maintained for many years. Importantly, Europe needs to open doors, borders and hearts the same Africa did when first Europeans inundated Africa seeking spheres of influence that later became colonies.
Again, Europeans seem to have forgotten a simple fact that they once gone to Africa  thereby colonizing her and destroying her economy and her ways of life. What did they expect out of an unequal and inequitable trade relationship the world evidences today? When they invaded to Africa, they did not have passports the same way our people are doing now. They’re called floods that’ll wipe out European good life standards. So be it; if they wiped out our own life standards before introducing slavery and colonialism. Swahili sages have a saying kula na kulipa. You eat and pay for what you’ve eaten. Or when you eat expect to be eaten. Aren’t we eaten by bacteria after our dead bodies undergo rigor mortis, chemical changes, when we die? The Europeans came to Africa and robbed her everything. Fortunately for them, Africans are not going there to rob or colonize them. But they’re going there to work because they’re good and hard workers. They are honesty and innocent victims of manmade exploitation in their continent.  Again, the Europeans are the same humans who created the exploitation that is forcing Africans to flee their countries. That’s why they are not aiming at colonizing anybody. If Europeans flooded Africa in the seventeenth and  the eighteenth centuries, what’s wrong for Africans to flood Europe in the twenty first century as the sign of reciprocity?

I think European countries honestly need to learn about globalization they introduced to the world. They must do so by using the waves of economic immigrants. They need to learn that when you leave a thorn back in the farm, the same will hurt you one day. Time for colonial monsters to pay what they ate is now. European countries need to understand that what’s going on is, essentially, the real product of their plundering policies championed by capitalism. Africans have a saying that the capital of a poor person is his or her energy. This is why Africans are looking for good life and jobs in Europe after colonial monsters conspired with black ones to deny them works at home. These folks are looking for the means to live dignified and meaningful lives. Invest in Africa and create jobs. You won’t see the assemblages of Africans coming to your doors to destroy and infringe on your cultures and standards the way you destroyed theirs.

Salaam Mwalimu Mhango,

Nami binafsi nimeanza kuandika kingine cha THE BEST AND WORST AFRICAN MANAGERS.

Western powers need to embark on a new way of looking at, and doing, things as far as the exodus of migrants is concerned. Africans who were treated like half beings for many years by enslaving and colonizing them are no longer the same today. Young people know too well what and where decent and meaningful life is. They know how to use internet to gain information that’s been the power that propelled Europe to success on the expenses of others. Time for Europe to stop the lie that Africa will remain the same is now. No more lies about Africa. The Dark Continent is now opening up brightly taking on those who brought her down. The light it emanates is now shining bright to those who caused and referred to Africa as the Dark Continent. Colonialism forgot one thing in that history has one permanent predisposition. It repeats itself. This is why today crowds of African modern-time missionaries, explorers, merchants and whatnot are taking on Europe to pay her back.
Look at how history is accurately and truly repeating itself. Europeans who paved way for colonialism came with boats the same way Africans are going to Europe. Colonial agents were all related to and supported by their home governments. The difference here however is that while Europeans were supported by their home governments, Africans are betrayed by theirs by making their lives miserably harder so as to risk their lives to travel to Europe. Even securing a passport, visa or a way to Europe is not that easy so to speak.
Another factor making this recurrence of history a reality is the law of proximity. It is much easier for Africans to go to Europe than going to other continents which, just like Africa, export their paupers. For instance, it is easier for a Tanzanian to go to Europe than going to India. Even travelling in Africa for an African is harder than travelling Europe thanks to systemic colonialism that the western enacted in Africa by exploiting her without developing her. After all, what would one go for in India where disadvantaged and poor Indians stowaway just like Africans and others end up in Africa? Some come and poach our animals. They fell our trees and transport them to their countries. Some steal our minerals in conjunction with our powerful homemade thieves. We see everything and know everything. Keeping mum does not mean that Africans don’t know where the problem lies. I think the problem for Africans is their designs of running away from home. By so doing, they give foreigners the opportunities to rob them even more. And arguably this is what their venal rulers want to happen. Africans know and understand everything however going to Europe for green pastures will never solve the problem without deconstructing it. If it does it will do so for a few and it will do so for a short time. As long as Africa remains divided, the problem will always haunt them after returning back home. So, they need to confront the right problem in the right way.
Africans know their weakness as well as their strength. They know where they went wrong. They know this no doubt about it. Again, when they think of taking actions, they think about our sisters and brothers who want to copy everything foreign. These copycats of ours are all over the place in Africa now. You see them behaving as if they’re westerners hopelessly. They swallow and devour whatever western comes to their ways in the name of fashions hook, line, and sinker. You can see them everywhere.

Ndugu Nkwazi N Mhango said...

Franz Fanon called them black masks white souls. We see them everywhere and in everything. They despise themselves due to their myopia and hard hearts. You see them in offices robbing our countries. The big ones steal and yet go to their masters to beg as if they’ve no hands, brains or resources. The flip side of all this is that all those living in the state of deny are not ready to help or cooperate with those that are conscious of who they are to take on the status quo. I think time to tell them is now. Please stop bringing us shame by begging and aping nonsensical things while we’ve everything. Stop borrowing so that you can get some money to stash in European banks while your people are starving. This is sacrilegious to have ruthless and heartless rulers in our offices. They hear me and pretend they don’t. They know what I am saying however they pretend not to get it. My wisdom to them is mere noise making. Again, for me such noise making is noble and it is better than silence that condones their illegality and criminality. Stealing from your coffers is as bad as stealing from your own house. True, for an African to be obliged to carry a passport when Africans travel in Africa is as bad as asking for a permission to enter some of the rooms in your own house which in this case is Africa. Forcing him or her to carry a bloody passport is to rob him or her. Doing so is robbing our identity and right to wonder in our continent as pleased. This should not go on shall we aspire to stand proudly before the international community. For, our enemies know how divided and weak we are. So they use our weakness to make us even weaker and weaker.

Salaamu Mwalimu Mhango,
