Bye bye Compaore as you wait to be brought to book
The reports we have are that former Burkina Faso strong man Blaise Compaore has resigned. If anything, this is good news for peace lovers. Compaore found himself in the hot soup after conspiring with the parliament to amend the constitution to enable him to run for yet another term in office after ruling for 27 years. As MPs met, demonstrators stormed the parliament, set it on fire and the MPs escaped. This was the beginning of the end of Compaore. Given that many African countries such as Uganda, Tanzania, Eritrea, Togo, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea, DRC, Mozambique, Morocco, Mauritania, Gambia, Lesotho, Swaziland and Zimbabwe face the same problem, will the citizenry stand up and pull down long time dictators in their countries? Is it time for new breath to be realized and experienced in Africa South of Sahara. Will the fire that gutted Compaore down be doused? Will it spread even further south? Who knows. At least africa is happy to have buried one dictator. Importantly, Burkina people should not celebrate the ouster of their dictator. Instead they must stick to their guns to see that Compaore and his cronies are brought to book. So, too, they should not allow what transpired in Egypt after the fall of Hosni Mubarak whereby the army hijacked the revolution.
