Letter from Canada to EAC leaders: Do we still need to have colonial lake Victoria amidst us?

 

Dear good leaders of the East African Community,

Salute.
        Let me delve straight to the point. When it comes to the perpetual colonisation and contamination of Africa that borders cancerous tumours, it didn’t start and end with our bodies and heads but the entire Africa, its psyche and turned them into psychos who suffer psychosis so as to kill other for or in the defence of their colonial faiths. We use and are very proud of speaking the languages of our former colonisers. We sturdily carry their names. We foolishly and vainly aspire to be like them after failing to look like them.

     We tend to act like them though we don’t get it rightly. We religiously ape and apply their democracy. We dress like them.
                Dear good leaders, we the colonised small and big also compete among ourselves for them to use us as their proxies in our political offices and organisations. That’s why it is not an anomaly to find a political party like Christian Democratic Party or some gullible political leaders calling their countries Christian as if the same Christianity did not pave the way for their colonisation.

 Ironically, those committing such buffoonery pride themselves as educated. So sad. I mean those who swear upon Bible and Quran to rule African countries as if Africans did not know how to swear before the arrival of alien and colonial religions that robbed us of everything including our culture, ethos, more, names, the ways of doing things by demonising everything that is African except our foods and minerals. Those who called their places holy as if ours are gory. Those who butchered our names and those of our places as this piece will show.
            Dear good leaders, I wish this piece would be written in Swahili. Again, the Daily Monitor is not a Swahili paper. Thus, I have to bite the bullet and lampoon others including myself. I don’t want to act as a simian that doesn’t see its bums so as to laugh at others simply because they have the rumps like its own.
            Dear good leaders, though I know there are many places that are still named after our criminal colonisers, with special attention, today, I specifically will boldly commence the quest for the decolonisation of the face of Africa. My starting point is lake Nyanza (Sukuma), Nalubale (Luganda), Victoria (colonisers and the colonised) and Nam Lolwe  and Rweru for Luo and Haya speakers respectively.

 I’d like to start with this because of its regional and global significance as the second largest lake on earth after Superior in north America. If we consider the four names aforementioned, all belong to certain people. What if we call it Nalunyanza, Namlolwenyanza or Nyananalwo by combining the first two letters of every name? I hate to hear an Africa lake to be called Victoria, the name of a criminal who colonised us. Is there any pond in Europe named after any African? 

    If there is anything African, I would wish to be named after colonisers is nothing but graveyards or prisons or hell but not our falls, gorges, land, lakes, rivers, mountains, national parks, roads and even our evil spirits.
                Dear good leaders, allow me to wind up here expressly saying it that it is time for East African leaders to do themselves a small favour. Decolonise and detoxify our might lake. Thereafter, do the same to other faces of Africa that are crying for carrying with trauma resulting from carrying alien and colonial names. 

Sometimes, we fail to understand why we’ve never developed or known peace. How can we while we pretend to be free while we are still in chain due to our willing mental slaves? Do the decolonisation and detoxification of our places really need donors or tutors from abroad? The sage has it that when your enemy makes mistakes never correct him or her. This is what our colonisers did.
                What a shame for countries that have been independent though in dependency for over sixty years to fail to see and rectify such a perpetual bane of shame and trauma?
Dear presidents, may I humbly submit as I beseech to consider this critical issue of importance for our identity as normal countries and humans. Whom are we afraid, why and until when?
